Peaks move from one injection to the next

Short checks only. This is not a repair procedure. Stop for a smell of gas, a hydrogen or leak shutdown, a damaged fitting or column, or a fault that does not change.

Quick checks

Cause

Incomplete equilibration, unstable oven, evaporating premixed solvent, or unstable proportioning.

Check

Cap the solvent bottles. Use the same equilibration time on every injection. Confirm the oven is at setpoint.

When to call

Call if retention wanders while temperature and a fresh mobile phase are stable, especially if pressure wanders with it.

Full notes

This is different from a one-time shift after a method change. Wandering retention during a sequence usually means the column is not equilibrated, the column oven is not stable, premixed solvent is evaporating, or the proportioning valve is not delivering a repeatable composition.

Keep the solvent bottles closed. Give gradient methods the same equilibration time on every injection. Confirm the oven is on and at the set point.

Call Mahut if retention wanders while temperature and a freshly prepared mobile phase are stable, especially if pump pressure wanders with it.

Still not restored?

If the system is not restored, the next step is a corrective visit, not a second round of the same fittings.
